Schedule? What Schedule, It’s Summertime!

Of course Summer is more relaxed, less rushed, less busy, right? But it’s also much easier to become distracted, to stay with a schedule, even to get things done. It’s also a great time to learn new things. I signed up for an online Seminar about writing and publishing, so I’m very distracted and off schedule. However, it should soon lead to getting things done! In the meantime, here’s a few photos for you to enjoy. Rain showers and storms are becoming a regular thing again. Typical Florida Summer weather.       It seems the tree frogs are too hot to hide themselves properly. This one’s above the shutter by a window.       The cats get lazy. I threw a cat treat to Monster, but he didn’t notice it...

Some Days Are Crazy!

Yesterday was a little crazy. Everything seemed to start out fine, but a few hours later I noticed Zelda had hives! I still have no idea why she had them. I gave her Benadryl and took her to the vet. By the time we got there, the hives were better but she still has some mild ones today.   Here’s a little video that makes me smile:     The ducklings are getting so big! I love to hear them eating their breakfast, they make such contented little noises. They’ll be 8 weeks old next Monday. Time is flying by . . .   Here they are in their wagon, on the way out to their daytime pen. I keep them, and the chickens, locked in the garage at night. When they’re a little older they’ll be able to stay outside...

A Quiet, Lazy Weekend

This past weekend was relaxing and enjoyable. As a result, I had a little time to really look at the chicks and ducklings, and I realized they’ve really been growing! Our 1 Mille Fleur chick, which we’ve thought was a rooster, then a hen, is now obviously a nice looking rooster. We’ll need to find a hen for him before too long.     I also had some time to plant some things I bought last week. While I was digging, I found this tiny egg. I knew immediately what it was, since I had picked one up a few weeks ago and I immediately hatched in my hand. It belongs to a little lizard called an anole. They live wild here in Florida and I love to see them, as they’re good insect eaters. This egg needs to stay in the dirt and...

Summer Has Officially Begun!

Some scenes can be so typical of certain seasons of the year. In this case, an evening sunset made more beautiful by distant rain clouds. Or how about a cart at the garden store, full of flowering plants? In Summertime, bees and butterflies appreciate a garden well planted with nectar plants.     A quiet morning walk in the woods, the sun streaming through the trees, is a good way to get some exercise before the heat of the day.   Trouble and Gum Drop have found a shady spot to enjoy some friendly, mutual scratching.       A sure sign of Summer is getting back in the pool. The dogs seem to enjoy the pool as much as their humans do!   Share...

A Little Reminder, Especially Now . . .

Since I write about animals, I thought it would be a good time for a quick reminder about Canine Heartworm preventive and Canine and  Feline Flea medications. In the Summer months with the increased humidity, it becomes a necessity to remember monthly medications to keep our animals, and ourselves, free from discomfort caused by flea bites and possible illness. My personal choice of Heartworm preventive for my dogs is Trifexis, since it also provides flea medication in the same tablet.     Another choice for dogs in flea medication is a product called Capstar. This begins killing adult fleas within 30 minutes! Unfortunately it doesn’t last a month like other medications.  Capstar is also available as a feline medication. My choice for my cats is a...

A Bathtub Isn’t A Pond, But The Ducklings Don’t Mind

It’s a little hard to believe the ducklings are a month old already! They’ve been growing fast and are bigger than the chicks now.   Here’s a video of them swimming in the bathtub. They make it look so fun!     Just four more weeks and they can move out of the garage and live outside. I’m working on a pen for them now. Here’s another video I took of them swimming, in slow motion. It makes the water almost look like jello. Enjoy.   Share...

Things To Do On Your Birthday!

Last Friday, June 5th, was Zelda’s birthday.  We made sure she enjoyed her favorite things!   Guarding her favorite dirt hole:     Walking in the woods:       Spending time with her brother and sister:     And hanging out in the sunshine:     Looks like she had a pretty good day, don’t you think?   Share...
