The Chicks Have Arrived!

Our baby chickens arrived yesterday morning. This whole chicken adventure has been full of ups and downs! First, attempting to incubate eggs was a disaster, and now buying chicks online has been upsetting.

I was so excited to go to the post office and pick up my chicks yesterday morning. I could hear them cheeping in the post office and they sang all the way home. When I got them home, I opened the box and found a pile of chicks, all in one corner. At the bottom of the pile, 1 poor baby was dead. I’m not sure if it was stress or if it was squashed.

All seemed well, I followed all the instruction from the hatchery to care for my new arrivals. Then, slowly throughout the day, some of the chicks started to die. We started with 16 and now we only have 7, but they seem healthy and over the stress of traveling. The hatchery was wonderful and credited my account. We plan to buy some ducklings, soon.

Here are some pictures from yesterday morning and 1 from today of the survivors.
